Dollar Tree can stick to the slogan "Everything for $1" largely because they sell branded items such as Family Dollar. This store has been branded as a general store with lower prices, as it does not sell as many items as you would find in other stores. For example, a roll of tin foil costs a dollar, while the same brand in a similar-sized box costs $5 at Family Dollar. Dollar Tree does its best to ensure that everything costs $2.00 or less, even if it's not the most expensive piece.
A quick inside look would show that these similarly named stores do have some differences, but not as much as Family Dollar.
